Listen and Pray through 1 Peter 2:21-25
Click the button below to listen and pray through this passage. This practice will take about 8 minutes.
Prepare
Take a moment to settle your body.
Let your breathing slow.
With each inhale, receive the breath of God.
With each exhale, release what is heavy.
Whisper gently:
“Speak, Lord, I am listening.”
Today’s passage draws us deeply into Christ’s example of suffering, humility, and redemptive love— it’s a beautiful reflection for stillness and surrender. As we listen, pay attention to how the Holy Spirit is nudging you to linger and respond.
Read
1 Peter 2:21-25
21 For God called you to do good, even if it means suffering, just as Christ suffered[l] for you. He is your example, and you must follow in his steps.
22 He never sinned,
nor ever deceived anyone.
23 He did not retaliate when he was insulted,
nor threaten revenge when he suffered.
He left his case in the hands of God,
who always judges fairly.
24 He personally carried our sins
in his body on the cross
so that we can be dead to sin
and live for what is right.
By his wounds
you are healed.
25 Once you were like sheep
who wandered away.
But now you have turned to your Shepherd,
the Guardian of your souls.
Listen & Reflect
Pause. Let a word or phrase rise in your heart.
What stands out?
Hold it gently in silence.
As we return to a portion of the passage, picture the face of Jesus and allow these words to draw you deeper into his character. See his love for you as you listen.
Read verses 21-23 again.
Sit with Jesus for a moment. Behold him. Allow this picture of Jesus to lead you to worship and thanksgiving. Ask the Holy Spirit, what part of Jesus’ example do you want me to pay attention to and follow today?
Read verse 24 again.
Jesus’ suffering was not meaningless. As this verse says, he carried OUR sins, SO THAT we can be free from the bondage of sin and walk in healing and righteousness. Testify to this truth in your life. As psalm 107 says, “Has the Lord redeemed you? Then speak out!” Out of worship and thankfulness, allow yourself to imagine where you might be today if Jesus hadn’t intercepted your path and brought you into His glorious light. Bless Jesus by telling Him how he’s redeemed you, how you’ve been healed. Tell him about the victory you’ve experienced over the sin in your life.
Verse 25:
Have you been feeling like a wandering sheep? Take heart…the Shepherd is coming for you and this verse says he is the Guardian of your soul. Take a moment to picture that. To see Jesus guiding you home and keeping watch over your soul.
Sit with the Shepherd.
Listen for His voice in the quiet.
Now rest.
No more words are needed.
Just be still in His presence.
Let the Shepherd hold your heart.
Breathe in: “By His wounds…”
Breathe out: “…I am healed.”
Remain in silence for a few more moments.
Pray
Jesus,
You walked the road of suffering,
not with anger or retaliation,
but with mercy, trust, and love.
You bore my sins in Your own body
so that I could be free—
free to live for what is good and right.
By Your wounds, I am healed.
By Your grace, I am led home.
When I’m tempted to respond in bitterness,
teach me Your gentleness.
When I feel lost,
remind me You are my Shepherd,
the Guardian of my soul.
Lead me in Your steps today,
and help me walk in the way of love.
Amen.
