Listen and Pray through Ephesians 3:14-21

Click the button below to listen and pray through this passage. This practice will take about 9 minutes.

Prepare

Ephesians 3:12 – Because of Christ and our faith in him, we can now come boldly and confidently into God’s presence.

As we prepare to do just that, let’s take a few deep breaths.

Since we can enter his presence confidently, let’s bring our best selves today. Spend a few moments releasing any distractions and tensions…preparing to be fully present as we meet with Jesus today.

Today’s passage comes right after that call to come boldly and confidently into God’s presence. As you gently listen to these words from Scripture. Let them fall fresh on you, like rain on thirsty soil:

Read

Ephesians 3:14-21

When I think of all this, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, 15 the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth.16 I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. 17 Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. 18 And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. 19 May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.

20 Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. 21 Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen.

Listen & Reflect

This was Paul’s prayer for the church in Ephesus and it’s a prayer for you today too. Take a few moments to allow the Holy Spirit to intercede on your behalf.

“I pray that from His glorious, unlimited resources He will empower you with inner strength through His Spirit.”  God has unlimited resources. Think about that for a moment. Not only does he have unlimited resources, he gives you access to them. He’s offering to empower you and strengthen your inner-being today. Tell God where you need His strength today.

“Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him.” Imagine Jesus settling into your heart—not just visiting, but making His home. Jesus is not a houseguest that you must clean-up for. He’s not a visiting dignitary or distant relative that you need to impress with your elaborate meals and expensive décor. You don’t need to make your home presentable as it’s His home too now. However, you do need to give HIM permission to do some house cleaning. Just like Jesus flipped over tables in the temple to clean out what didn’t belong…He’s willing to clear out some of the rooms in your house in order to help you become the dwelling place he created you to be.

Spend a few moments inviting Jesus to make his home in your heart. What does it feel like to know He is with you, right here? Are there any rooms in your house that you’ve been trying to keep Jesus out of? Unlock the door. Let him in. Allow him to clear out the cobwebs and transform it into a room that brings honor and glory to his name.

“Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. 18 And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is.”  Imagine God’s love spreading through the soil of your heart…stretching wide, and long, and high, and deep.- steady, unseen, unshakable.  You are held in the soil of divine love. You don’t have to strive—you only need to remain. Sit with this image. Breathe in love. Breathe out peace.

May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.Let your mind rest in mystery.
Let your heart open to love beyond understanding.
You don’t need to explain it—just receive it.

Let your mind wonder – what would you look like if you were made complete with all the fullness of life and power? How would you act, walk, and live differently if you believed God was doing this work in you today?

Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.  We all have expectations for what we’d like God to do in our lives. But what if he wanted to accomplish even MORE than your expectations can hold? What if he has even greater things in store? Allow your imagination to drift. Allow God to fill your dreams with confidence, knowing it’s HIM who is accomplishing these things through you.

Pray

As you prepare to take this time of prayer into your day, allow this prayer to repeat in your heart:

Lord,
Let Your love be the ground beneath me,
Your Spirit the strength within me,
Your presence the home I live in.
Do more in me than I can imagine.
To You be all the glory.

Amen.
