Advent Day 23

Advent Day 23

12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” – John 8:12 NIV

On rare occasions we may find ourselves in such utter darkness that we can’t see past the end of our nose. That was the case for the author of Night Skies and Dark Paths in our devotional. Under a dense forest canopy the only things visible were the pinpricks of starlight through the boughs until he stepped into an open field and the night sky exploded in a riot of stars. But despite the brilliant spectacle above, the path below remained obscured by darkness. At times our world may seem so dark that we lose sight of God’s light. When all we see around us is a darkened world, Jesus bids us to turn our gaze heavenward. He is the light of the world and the light of life in us. We don’t have to walk in darkness if we let Him light our way. Pause, close your eyes and intentionally turn your focus heavenward. Pray that Jesus would shine His light of life on you and direct you in the path He has chosen. Ask for eyes to see beyond the darkness and into the abundance of blessing He desires for you.
