Prepare
Find a quiet space.
Get comfortable.
Close your eyes or lower your gaze.
Take a deep breath in… and slowly let it out.
Take a moment to let your thoughts settle.
Welcome the presence of God.
Say quietly in your heart:
“Lord, I’m here. I’m listening.”
Today’s passage is Hebrews 6:9-20. This passage is full of hope, assurance, and the unshakable faithfulness of God. Read
Hebrews 6:9-20
We are confident that you are meant for better things, things that come with salvation. 10 For God is not unjust. He will not forget how hard you have worked for him and how you have shown your love to him by caring for other believers,[b] as you still do.11 Our great desire is that you will keep on loving others as long as life lasts, in order to make certain that what you hope for will come true. 12 Then you will not become spiritually dull and indifferent. Instead, you will follow the example of those who are going to inherit God’s promises because of their faith and endurance.
13 For example, there was God’s promise to Abraham. Since there was no one greater to swear by, God took an oath in his own name, saying:
14 “I will certainly bless you,
and I will multiply your descendants beyond number.”[c]
15 Then Abraham waited patiently, and he received what God had promised.
16 Now when people take an oath, they call on someone greater than themselves to hold them to it. And without any question that oath is binding. 17 God also bound himself with an oath, so that those who received the promise could be perfectly sure that he would never change his mind. 18 So God has given both his promise and his oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us. 19 This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain into God’s inner sanctuary. 20 Jesus has already gone in there for us.
Listen & Reflect
Pause and let that soak in.
Ask: “What word or phrase is lingering in my mind?”
Don’t overthink it. Just notice.
Sit with that word. Let it echo.
Just before this passage, the author is describing people who remain in spiritual infancy and those who burn out and turn away from the life God wants for them and from the Father himself. It’s in that spirit that he says…We are confident that you are meant for better things. Take that in today as if the writer of Hebrews is speaking directly to you. You were meant for better things. You weren’t meant to keep circling the same doubts and toxic thought patterns as you did in your spiritual infancy. God is promising so much more.
You weren’t meant to become spiritually dull and indifferent. Is that how you’ve been feeling lately? Have you felt burnt out? Like your hard work is not paying off or getting noticed? Take heart. God sees and he doesn’t forget. Allow God to renew your spirit and your desire to keep loving others and serving faithfully.
Take a few moments to reflect and listen to the heart of God as he reminds you that he sees you and he had better things for you.
Now read verses 18-19 again.
Can you picture a time when you were on a boat? Have you ever been on a boat in the middle of the ocean or lake where an anchor was dropped? Maybe you were on a snorkeling tour where you drifted off to explore…but when you resurface and look up…the boat is still there. It hasn’t drifted away. You have…but it hasn’t. It’s anchored to the spot.
That is what our hope and faith in Christ is for us. When we’re tempted to drift or when our thoughts and worries or desires threaten to pull us away…we can resurface and be assured that our anchor is secure. Our hope is strong and trustworthy because our God is unchangeable and incapable of breaking a promise.
Take a few moments to picture yourself and your faith being anchored and secured. The storms and waves around you may be turbulent but they are not strong enough to dislodge the anchor you are bound to. Allow this picture to fill you with confidence today.
If you’ve found yourself drifting lately, pick your head up and see that God has not moved. Allow him to draw you back into his heart, his stability, and is unwavering faithfulness.
Pause. Breathe. Receive His peace.
Holy Spirit, speak to me. I’m listening.
Pray
Father,
Thank You for being a just and faithful God.
You are not distant or forgetful.
You see every quiet act of love, every sacrifice, every moment we choose to care for others in Your name. Thank You for the assurance that our labor in love is not in vain.
Help us to keep going—to continue loving with endurance, even when we feel tired or unnoticed.
Guard our hearts from becoming spiritually dull or indifferent.
Instead, stir in us a fresh passion to follow the example of those who have gone before us, holding tightly to Your promises through faith and patience.
Lord, You have made a promise—and You have sealed it with an oath.
In a world full of uncertainty, You are our refuge.
In the storms of life, Your hope is the anchor for our souls—firm and secure.
Keep us grounded, not in our circumstances, but in who You are.
Let us drift neither in doubt nor fear, but remain steady, tethered to the unchanging promise of Your presence and Your purpose.
In You, our hope is not only alive—it is eternal.
We love You, Lord.
We trust You.
Help us live today with hope anchored in heaven.
Amen.
