Professional Counseling

Counseling services are provided by Gina Nicola (our Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist), Pastor Vince Llamas, and Leslie Barber, LMFT. This includes spiritual counseling, family/teen counseling, pre-marital and post-marital counseling for New Life attendees and the community.

Care Center counselors also provide referrals to our Support Groups for specialized struggles such as substance abuse, recovery from divorce, personal grief, weight loss, pornography addiction and relational abuse recovery. We also provide referrals to reputable Christian licensed therapists in the geographical area.

All Counseling services are scheduled by calling Merrie Biddison at the New Life Care Center at 805-489-3254 ext. 500.

Gina Nicola, LMFT, Department Head

Gina is the Director of Care & Counseling Services at New Life Church and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. Her passion is to create a safe environment for people to be honest and open about the difficulties of life and relationships. Gina believes people can find healing and hope through the love and relationship with Jesus.

Gina received her B.S. in Theology and Youth Ministry from San Jose Christian College (now William Jessup University) where she met her husband David. She went on to receive her M.A. in Psychology from Chapman University. Gina loves spending time with her husband and daughter, discovering new things and traveling. She is not only an avid college basketball fan but also a faithful fan of both the San Francisco 49ers and the San Francisco Giants.

Her favorite Bible verse is Isaiah 45:3 “I will give you the treasures of darkness, riches stored in secret places, so that you may know that I am the LORD, the God of Israel, who summons you by name.”

Leslie BarberLMFT Care Center Counselor

Leslie Barber, LMFT

Leslie is a Licensed Marriage Family Therapist who earned her M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University in Santa Barbara. She has also been licensed as a Vocational Nurse with the State of California since 1998. The combination of her medical background and clinical experience rounds out her understanding of the strong connection between the mind and body.

Leslie brings a compassionate, open, and direct approach to her work with children, families, and individuals. Her areas of expertise include attachment issues, grief and loss, anxiety and depression and their relationship to eating disorders. Her desire is to provide a safe, nurturing space where her clients can learn to be more comfortable in their own skin.

Leslie believes that Jesus is our ultimate healer and hope. One of her favorite scriptures is Jeremiah 29:11-13 ESV – 11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. 12 Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. 13 You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.
